Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe), New Delhi is organizing a workshop on "Food Security: Present and Future" on the occasion of its completion of six years of active service to the society on September 16, 2008 in collaboration with India International Center (IIC), Lodi Estate, New Delhi. Professor Abhijit Sen, Member Planning Commission, will be the Chief Guest, and Dr. Kirit Parikh, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India will be delivering the chairman’s address.

The main objective of the workshop is to deliberate the issues of increasing food supply, agriculture commodity prices and subsidy, incentives to farmers, distribution of food, investment in agriculture and rural development, impact of bio-fuels, provision of affordable inputs, R&D and extension system, income generation and livelihood. The workshop will generate considerable synergy among participants and add value to all the organizations and institutions associated with the agriculture sector.

Other distinguished speakers will be Prof. Jyoti Parikh, Prof. S Mahendra Dev, Dr Ashok Gulati, Dr. J S Samra, Dr. P Chaturvedi, and Dr. N Kalra. They will present their viewpoints on the present scenario of policy reforms in agriculture sector, and future concern of food productivity, natural resources and appropriate technology for India.

Senior officers of Government of India, agriculture scientists, economists, bankers, fertilizer specialists, and stakeholders associated with implementation of the "National Food Security Mission" of Government of India will be participating in the workshop.

NABARD is sponsoring the workshop.
